JPEG Decryption
This is pretty far removed from anything relevant but I was wondering if you guys could do me a favour.
Does this following code mean anything to anyone: ÿØÿà JFIF ÿà$ JFXX @0 " @ Thanks, Bailz. |

Perhaps if I give you some context.
This is a piece of code produced by some guy who was attempting to prove that someone had edited an image, JPEG to be specific. From this small section of code he managed to deduce that an edit had taken place, the guy had removed a section of the image and painted on an area of the image with a brown paintbrush. I smell something, and definitely doesn't smell flowery. Bailz. |

Well, unless a. you're familiar with the intricacies of the file format and b. unless you have the entire specimen (jpg) to examine then there's no way to verify or refute this assertion. I don't know if there's any way to really tell if an image has been modified in this way, unless you are examining some sort of watermark. You could analyze the entire file for inconsistencies in noise and distortion (ala forensic labs) which would reveal any image altering processes.
