Letter with image background?

Folks how can I make something like this image. The letters here are made using a newspaper background. In my case I wanted to use images of my family members to spell the letters. If U know how this is done. Please advise. I use fireworks MX

THANKS A LOT

I am pretty new that this but my first thought would be to have your background image that you want.

Next click on the text tool. Select the "Create mask or selection" option. Enter whatever text you want on top of that background.

Now simply select the layer with the background image in it. Then copy and past into a new layer. Hide the background image layer.

Hope this helps. I am sure it can be improved upon.

This here's just your basic masking as Eclipce said. While I'm not familiar with Fireworks, for Photoshop you'd just make your text, throw on the outline and in versions 7+ change the fill to 0%. Once here, you'll want to put the image you want, ie newspaper or photos, on a layer just below that of the text. Now, activate your mask accordingly.

G'luck with your project, donnwar.
