Exclamation Locked in Eyedropper mode!

Help!...

I have been using PS for many years, and have never encountered the strange problem I am having right now. I am running PS v7 with XP pro, and I have replicated the following problem many times, but only on my machine. My laptop PS is fine. Here is the problem...

Whenever I double-click on the foreground color in the color palette (or otherwise try and change the color), PS goes into eye-dropper mode, disables everything else (including the ability to shut the program down) and will not let me do anything. I end up having to go to task-manager to kill the process. This is very strange, but unfortunately happens 100% of the time I try to change colors in PS.

Anyone have any ideas. I am new to this forum, and would appreciate any and all ideas and/or help with this problem.

Thanks and greetings,

Chard

You may already know this since you've been using photoshop for years, but sometimes if the caps lock is on, it makes kooky things happen. So just a suggestion would be to check the caps lock. That's probably not the problem though, since the program is freezing up all together.

Do you happen to know anything about restoring filters? Check my thread posted today.

Lightbulb

I had the same problem and a very kind person helped me resolve it quickly.

If you have recently changed your screen resolution or went from a dual to a single monitor setup, you may have the problem of having the eyedropper mode freeze or lock on you.

What is happening: Photoshop opens dialog boxes (such as the color picker in this case) wherever they were last opened or closed. So when you change your screen setup, the dialog will open off screen (if it was last opened outside of the current display area).

How to fix it: Delete the preferences to reset your dialogs by:
1. Press Ctrl-Shift-Alt as you launch Photoshop.
2. Follow the instructions to delete/reset your preferences.
