Making a button cropped out of a whole file NOT look like a button
Any help is greatly appreciated! I am brand new to photoshop. I have a .psd file that was created by someone else for my friends web page. The psd file is the background, logo, and navigational bar for her home page. Each button is a "slice" I think because there are lines around each button on the left side navigational bar (not a true navigational bar just created by buttons) and around the head and body etc. (The lines are blue if that tells you anything - each section is numbered with a little tiny icon that looks a little like the back of an envelope.)
My question - we wanted to change the word on one of the buttons - I did that saved the psd file - no problem. Then I cropped out the button that we had changed. When I saved it to the web (as a jpg) the button looks like a button (a box around it - not a line a raised area that looks like a button.) The other buttons do NOT look like a button (even though the layers are named buttons.) How can I change it so it looks flat (not button like) like all of the rest of the items on the navigational bar. If I didn't give enough information I apologize. I am not sure I know enough about photoshop to ask this intelligently. Thank you for any help you can provide. |

one thing to lookout for is the styles on each layer...if there is a style on the layer like a bevel/contour or drop shadow or something, it will continue to apply this to the cropped bit
also if you didnt do a true crop, like if you jsut used the marquee or lasso and then cut it out there should be a feathering aplied to the tool that you may want to reset to 0px just some thoughts.. good lucky and rock on!! ![]()

I did check it in the browser (I think) I put it ont he web page and see it in the browser there. The bottom layer is the one that still looks like a button. But it doesn't have any effects applied to it - that I can find. Thank you for taking the time to post!! I really appreciate it - I am going to try to attach the image. |

ah! the file helps immensely. Go in the "features button" folder (which isnt really features) and double click the f icon to the right of the "features" layer. Then in the layer style, uncheck bevel and emboss. That will make it look flat.

wait a second this is confusing you dont tell him which layer, it should be features / features layer, and secondly, that is text not a button and the only layer i can see that has b/e. I also see lots of effects that are just sitting there with no real effect on the image its self, which means it could be using up space that could be used for something useful. He defines "button" look, however, what in this image is supposed to be button like? The text is the only thing with b/e as I said!

Quote:
Thank you! I am attaching a picture of what it looks like on the web page - I think this is going to make more sense. I wan't being clear enough - I apologize! Note the way there is an outline on the gold section around Happenings but not Products.... Thank you! |
