Mallory,

Welcome to DevShed. Please read this before posting again. In order to purchase Photoshop, you can go to the Adobe website. Yes, it works on WinXP. As to "which photo thingie is the next best thing," are you asking what the latest version of Photoshop is? It's 8 (or a.k.a CS.)

It could just be a metrosexual male that really likes the colour purple, and uses the comparison, 'like', as a preposition.

Noooooo ... I was getting all excited that we had a girl on board (well, we'll see if she gets mad at us first), and you go and put that image in my head. That was just wrong.

there are lots of people out there with trial versions. just ask around, i'm sure you can find one.

Photoshop CS is WAY better than 7.0.

but you get what you pay for, $450 later and i have a badass program

i might have a trial version of 7.0 somewhere on my server, it'll only last for 30 days but it'll give you an idea of what your getting into.

Photoshop is like a nasty drug, once you start you won't be able to stop

A little too excited! I never assume gender on the web, in fact, the only people that care about gender on the web are men! If you ever spent any time on IRC, you would notice the pattern that the only people that ask you your gender as an opening question (or shortly into the convo ) are men.

Adobe messed that nice trial period up really well for CS, by making it 3 days... or 2 days I can't remember...

Half a million people surveyed, 27 were named Mallory and none of them were male. (Just checking, I did, check). What have you queried lately? Anyway ...

PaintShop Pro for 1/5 the price does about 1/5 as much but it is perfectly adequate for touching up digital photos to place on a website. It is not perfectly adequate for doing all the neat graphic design clever tricks, plug-in development, etc. which is why photoshop is still the defacto standard which is priced right out of the home consumer market.

Hehe, you sure about that ?

I had a trial version before I bought the full one, all you had to do was set your system date back to 2003 before install then turn it back to 2004 and it worked like a charm for about 30 days.

I found it on my server (7.0). I'll pm the thread author with the url ASAP...
