Pen tool/layer help please!!!

Hey, i am very very new to photoshop, I have version 7.0 by the way.

Ok so what i am trying to do is creat like wallpapers and stuff and i wanna use the pen tool to you know outline the part of the picture i want which I can do (sometimes it fills the part i want to select with a solid color and other times it does not). From here i drag what i have selected to what layer i want it to apear on and all i get is the out line and i cant figure out how to make the image appear. Also when i use pictures i have taken they are always locked. I also have tried just dropping the image to the layer under it but the same thing alwas happens. help..please?

Next issue is i wanna open a bunch of pix i have taken in the smae layers platette but i can because every time i open a new picture i get a new platette. I dont want just a new blank layer but a layer that is an image i have taken and i want a bunch in the smae layer thing.

Sorry if this does not make to much sense but i am really new to all this, right now i can just do basic stuff like use the laso to drag stuff but the edges look bad using that, or i use the wand to select basic shaps, but thats about all i can do and i would really like some help.

If you completely close the path, it should fill the outline. If you leave it open, it will not fill it.

Open the Path pallet, select the outline, then on the path pallet choose "Fill Path".

Is the layer named "Background"?? Backgrounds are always locked. You can either double-click on it or go to Layer > New Layer > From Background. Then select the image (use the lassoo if necessary) and drag-and-drop it to your new image.

OK, there's a few ways to do this.

1. File > Actions > Contact Sheet
2. Write a custom script
3. Do it manually.

Look up some tutorials, read the book, and practice.
