Photoshop 7.0
I cannot figure out how to make a header..
http://www.reliablepchelp.com/pregnancyhhc3.htm - see top header. I would like to have it flatten so to speak and without that white glow around it. I had done these is 6.0 and I cannot get a transparent background yet looks clean with text. Any help is appreciated greatly! ![]() |

so if I get you right you want to have that layer effect on "Pregnancy" without the white background?
I assume that you copy the headline into the complete composition. If you create a new image within PS you automaticaly get a background layer, which is (assuming you didn't change the presets) white. So what you got to do is: Create a new layer and put the text on it. Once you have done this and applied the layer effects (as shown in the header of your link), you can just remove the background layer and save the file as .psd. The background is then transparent. You can import that image into your composition then. The easiest solution would be to create the image in the composition itself. With what are you creating the composition anyway? Illustrator ? Indesign? hope this helps kind regards Sven |

I created the web page in FrontPage 2003. This image is without a background already...I think.
So I would add a layer and recreate it? Sorry, I am confused. Quote:

ah ok my mistake!
thought the whole image was created in PS. well its a html document with different graphics... Only had a short look at it! Well then the problem is different and you won't have much alternatives... 1. you could use the "Pregnancy" without a shadow, this would solve the white background Problem. 2. and the solution which I would advise you to use: Create the "Pregnancy" on the background image itself. The shadow would then merge with the background composition. You cannot use shadows in HTML or DHTML. You will always have a part of the background color on which you created the image. No matter if the rest of the image is transparent or not. I hope you get what I mean! kind regards Sven |

Sorry my mistake perhaps!
I created the image in Photoshop then inserted it into Frontpage. I would like to have the image with some sort of shadow effect. Save it without a background. Then insert into the Frontpage document. I cannot do this as you say below? I really would like to have this available...I cannot imagine that this can't work, no? Thanks for your help!! Quote:

In essence what I'd like to do is have this image look like when you 'flatten image' but without the white background, when you flatten.
I really need to get this up....Any Help is Appreciated! Quote:

well technicaly it isnt really possible when you are working with PS.
The problem is that if you do a shadow it is nothing else than a gradient. This gradient goes (for a shadow layer effect) from Alpha 0 to Alpha 100 black. (or whatever color you have defined). Now if you save this you WILL have a problem with the gradient effect, because there is no such alpha effect in a gif or jpeg format like in PS. In GIF you have one alpha channel which defines alpha 0 or alpha 100. There are no steps inbetween. So an alpha gradient like in the PS is not possible. (which uses different Alpha statuses). No chance. Sorry. as I stated before, use option 2 of my suggestion. Thats the only sensible way to get the image like you showed without the white background. believe me. I am into photoshop and image editing pretty much since its beginning. Last edited by winddancer : March 8th, 2004 at 10:16 AM. |
