PhotoShop 7 grid Lines

I have been using Photoshop 7 and have ran into a problem that I can not fix. This situation has never happened before in the long time that I have used Photoshop.
My problem/situation is this: when I bring a photo into the Photoshop display area, the photo is covered with very fine grid lines up and down. It is almost impossible to work on a photo with these grid lines shown.
I have not been successful in finding a way to eliminate the grid lines and I am becoming very frustrated. I would very much appreciate any help or suggestions. Thank you.

Check in your "View" menu drop-down
View>Show>Grid Lines

Shortcut 'might' be [ Ctrl+' ] (yes its the + and ') to turn it off/on

Shortcuts Shortcuts Shortcuts! Use the Quick Keys as much as possible, IMO, makes working faster and easier...
Here's a cool link for Photoshop 7 Shortcut Keys

Thanks zer0efx for your reply, but your suggestion did not remove the grid lines across the photo.
The view drop down menu only showed "proof set up" and "show extra options". The "show extra options" has several items, all checked, one of which was "grid". I unchecked the grid box, and tried again to bring in a photo, but the photos still have grid lines.
The control+' did not help either.
Any other suggestions.

Hmm.. First off, Welcome to the DevShed Forums!!

Secondly, create a NEW document and and see if it shows the Grid Lines, then try to Toggle the Grid Lines off/on. If they go off and on in the new document, try again on the Photos itself.

Also open the photos separate of PS and make sure they're now gridlines embedded in the photo.

Thanks for staying with me to resolve my problem. I owe you an appology. Your first suggestion worked fine after I applied it properly. I didn't understand how to use the control+' and I actually used the + key in the sequence of control+'. After looking at all the control keys in the link you provided, I realized that I was doing it wrong. I tried the control key and the ' key and the grids disappeared from my photos.
I am very grateful for your help. thanks again.
