Photoshop 8

Does anyone have a bead on when 8 is supposed to be released, or even announced?

It is due by the end of the year.

Here's a link to an article on Macnn

"Rumours: Adobe's Next Upgrades - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
An analyst report made waves today with speculation that Adobe would release a new version of Photoshop "and other key applications" by the end of the year.

According to the report, November/December is the expected shipment time for Photoshop 8.

Early beta screenshots of Photoshop 8 appeared on Mac websites in early July. Those images were quickly removed at Adobe's request, however.

Early reports and screenshots of Adobe Illustrator 11 have also made the rounds.

One reader notes that McGraw-Hill is publishing a book entitled "How to Do Everything with Illustrator 11" which is due to be published on October 9, 2003 -- providing one possible timeframe for release.

In the meanwhile, upcoming PowerMac G5 owners should be satisfied with Photoshop 7 with a G5 Photoshop plug-in which is reported to be coming.

Microsoft-Watch reports on another major Adobe application -- InDesign. Indesign 3.0 is currently in beta testing and is expected to be released this fall. Microsoft-Watch details numerous improvements in the 3.0 version. (Source Macrumours)

I doubt it's going to worth upgrading to 8. You can actually do without the features that are new and the old features that have been improved on. I'd pass on it.

Its Photoshop CS guys, not 8 or 8.0 its CS. And i happen to be using it as we speak so, YES it is released and you will be impressed with its new features. Including animation creation, customize your own keyboard shortcuts, new tools, enhanced scripting and Imagready compilation. Great update id say.

Thumbs up

Yes, it certainly is a step up from v7, and when you look at the Photoshop Object Model and the scripting abilities, going CS is a no-brainer. I just stumbled on the scripting subject a little while ago, and within a few minutes, I created a text layer in a new image and saved it via VBA code I wrote within Excel. This is really an improvement over the non-conditional action language inside Photoshop. Now I'll be able to process all the images in a folder, turning them into thumbs, various compression and size, framed and drop shadowed... with a click of a dialog box button. YIPPEE!
