Photoshop 9 layer window won't stay open

All of a sudden, PS 9, part of CS2 on my Mac, the layer window will not stay open. As soon as I click on the image, the layer window closes. I have to keep hitting F7 to open it, but it closes again as soon as I click on the image! I've been using this software for years and never had this problem. Any thoughts? Did I inadvertently reset something? Help.
