Photoshop CS Font Problem

Alright, I'm a bit of a newbie on Photoshop but I'd like to know why this problem I have is occuring. I have a Photoshop file (PSD) that has a few fonts in it that weren't previously in my system. So what I did was got a copy of those exact fonts and installed it in my default fonts directory in windows which would be C:\Windows\Font, so I restart Photoshop and it still says I don't have those specific fonts. Then I restart my computer and I still get the same error message. I'm looking at the fonts list in Photoshop and I see those fonts, but they are lightish gray and all the way at the bottom of the list divided by a line.

Could someone tell me what this means and how I can get it to recognize these fonts so I can use it?

Can you use those fonts in word and other programs? Sometimes you can't just drag and drop, you have to actually install the fonts.

Hmm no, they are not showing up in my other programs either. How Do I go about correctly installing them so my programs would recognize them?

I looked up the certain file on the internet and found it in a zip file, then what I did was took the font file in the zip file and extracted it to the fonts directory. As I did with all the other fonts....

I have had that problem with word, I could use the font in other programs but not word. However, since you can't use it in any program, I would guess that it isn't installed correctly.

I would suggest not unzipping directly to the fonts folder, as there are always extras within the zip file. Unzip to another folder, then drag and drop ONLY the font into the fonts folder. I would almost be willing to bet that the font is in a folder within the fonts folder, which would make it unusable.

I sort of thought that would be the problem where there would be a fonts directory within another font directory but that wasn't the case here, I already checked. I'm going to try unzipping it to another folder and copy/pasting to the fonts directory from there to see if it fixes it.

When you are in the fonts folder from the control panel cant you go to File > Install Fonts or something like that?

At work we use the Frutiger font for our printed material, and there are 14 fonts in the Frutiger family, but for some reason only 6 of them shows up in my Photoshop

They all show up in i.e. Word..

Any suggestions as to what to do??

Talking

here's what i do when my new fonts won't load in Word or Photoshop or whatever other program in Windows XP...

this has happened to me a couple of times if I simply install the fonts and quickly exit the Fonts folder before they have a chance to load. try leaving your Fonts folder open for a while so the fonts can actually load properly - even after you see the icon appear in the folder. then restart your computer and try it again. it's worked 9 out of 10 times for me. the only times it hasn't worked i haven't found a solution so i simply remove the font from my computer altogether.

Send a message via Yahoo to Cheesefood
Use Adobe Type Manager. It's installed on your system. Look for it, open it, and install your new fonts with it.

Your life will instantly make sense.
