photoshop cs help required!!
Im currently scanning 6x17 images on my nikkon 8000 scanner in 16-bit mode, im scanning a panoramic transparancy in 3 sections. Im then stiching them together in photo-merge but I have to reduce them to 8-bit images because photo-merge wont accept 16-bit images. Is it ok to reduce the images to 8-bit for photo-merge then increase them back to 16-bit in photo shop without losing any pixel information, or will this information be interpolated?

I see no reason to use 16 bit unless you're a professional photographer who knows the difference between 8 and 16 bit. Just scan at a high DPI value - 300 for print, 96 for web. Just to let you know, you can't force an 8 bit image to be 16 bit. With scanning, it's safe to assume the best you'll get is 8 bit. You can't then tell it to be 16 bit and expect it to truely by 16 bit. All you're doing is fooling yourself into believing the larger file size means something. Believe me, it doesn't. |

16 bit photo merge is available
Hey,
in the way you are doing this you'll loose your images color depth. I suggest you to do the following: 1. open all the scanned matherials in your photoshop 2. Open a new document in the desired dimentions and then set it to 16 bit color depth 3. Then drag and drop your 3 sacanned files layers to the new doc and merge. I tryed it - it works. Feel free to visit my site for more information and tutorials www.edynamo.com Best, Fader :-) Quote:
