I agree with you. I tried to find tutorials for psp and there is alot more out there for photoshop for newbies to learn on. After I learned on PS, my psp collects dust (not litterally..lol)

For what purpose?

I'd recommend Photoshop Elements for you. If you're asking those questions, Photoshop is going to do nothing but confuse you and fill up this forum with posts asking how to make simple changes.

Look - can you stop going around and saying to people 'Buy Elements not Photoshop - you are not good enough for Photoshop' It is arrogant and annoying. If someone wants to buy the best - they can buy the best - their choice.

Thumbs up

Photoshop CS !! Best professional tool available on the market in my opinion.

After using 7.0 for some time, I thought that there isn't any room left for improvements ... CS proved me wrong

I never said "You are not good enough". What I'm trying to do is to educate people that Photoshop is not always the right tool. Using Photoshop for home purposes is like using a jackhammer to hang a picture.

What's wrong with helping people pick the right tool?

Well if someone is saying: 'Which do you think is better: Photoshop of PSP, I prefer Photoshop' - it gives me the impression that they already OWN Photoshop.
So when you say 'What is the point - Elements is better for you' it seems pointless and stupid, and gives the impression that they don't need a good product, as they themselves are not good enough to use it.

Why do you keep talking about "good"? They're both FANTASTIC products.

My reply was directed at people who may be doing research to see which program is better for their purposes.

As a Photoshop moderator, I'd think you'd be on-board with directing people to use the tool that fits their needs best. I'm shocked that you'd rather people waste hundreds of dollars or support pirates than promote a product that will fit the needs of the users here.

I'm not oblivious to what you are trying to say - I do see.

But the point is that most people who post in the Photoshop forums already have a copy of Photoshop, or Elements, so I don't really see much point in advising them which one to buy.

People come here to ask for support on problems they are having in the program, not really which version to buy. And if someone is saying: 'Which do you prefer out of X and Y' - then they probably already have them both themselves, and are just looking for other people's point of views.

And the way in which you are saying these things, although you are trying to help suit a product to a person's needs, it's just seems a little arrogant and annoyed, that anyone other than complete full time professionals could appreciate a truly amazing product, and in my opinion, that is not the case, but we are all entitled to our own opinions.

I'm going back to an earlier analogy:

Which would you use when hanging a picture on a wall, a 16oz claw hammer or a pneumatic jackhammer?

I'm assuming you'll go with the claw hammer because, even though it's not as awesome as a jackhammer, it'll get the job done and you'll have less of a chance of screwing things up.

Another analogy: would you recommend a first-time computer user to get a UNIX system over a Windows or Mac OS?

How about using InDesign or FrameMaker instead of Microsoft Word? Or Illustrator over Paintshop, or Flash over PowerPoint?

There's a TON of great products out there, but they aren't designed to be used by the casual user. Photoshop takes years to get mediocre. There's simply too much to confuse the average person.

Case in point: my mom is a pretty advanced level computer user. She went out and bought a pirated copy of Photoshop because she "wanted the best" but didn't think she should pay full price. Then she got it, and asked me "How do I make my pictures look better?"

You know Photoshop, what would you say to your mom? Tell her about curves, levels, sharpening masks and blending options? I did that and it went RIGHT over her head.

People think PS has a Magic Button that will make pictures look great, like the mythical "Zoom and Enhance" filter that CSI uses (BTW, any idea where I can get that filter?).

Look at how many threads are about enlargening pictures while making them higher resolution, or how come my 14 pt font is so small on my 1200 DPI image?

Simply put, it was made for people who understand printing, photography and graphics. Not people who want to put their girlfriend's head on a hotter girls body.
