how come png-24's look like crap on webpages?
it doesn't give the nice transparency transition i want it to... instead it fills up the so called "transparent" sections with this ugly grey |

It's because you are looking at it in IE. If you look at it in Mozilla, it looks great.

mozilla is at mozilla.org but don't forget 98% of your audience probably uses IE. Personally I like to optimize for MOSe (Mozilla/Opera/Safari enhancement) but make sure nothing is missing for IE users
