Resizing all the pictures in a folder
Hello,
I looked into the photoshop Automated tasks, in the batch section. It has a list of different actions but resizing wasn't among them? Can you specify your own action to be executed? Basically I want to reduce the size of many JPEG pictures in a folder automatically. Thanks for your help |

sure can...
in the actions panel, create a new action, name it whatever. when it's in 'record' mode, do your resize, and whatever other changes you're doing. resize only really works with images that are the same orienation. with it still recording, save the image as a jpeg (or whatever). then you hit stop, then you run the batch. hth!

Thanks for the help ran_dizolph,
I did exactly that and things seem to work fine. I hit the record and then open the "resize" in the help menu and change the pixel amount. Then I hit save. When I run the batch it seems to go through all the pictures, since all the pictures in that folder get opened. Also on the action panel it shows that pictures are getting opened and saved. However, when I go back to the folder, they still have the same size and haven't been resized! |

when it runs the action on each pic., does it look like they're being resized? are you saving them to a seperate folder from the originals??

No, it doesn't show the resizing. It just opens them and saves them. Yes I am saving to the same folder when I am recording my action.
Basically when I am recording I open a picture in the folder, then go to "Help", click on "Resize image" and choose the "online" option for the format. I then choose the pixel setting and when I see the resulting small picture I save it in the same folder and then hit the stop button for my action. I will then run the batch on the folder using the defined action. |

hi.
okay, i don't know why yer going to 'help' to resize...but anyways... -open yer image -setup a new action -'image' - 'image size' - set your size to what you want -'save as' - make new folder, saving your resized file in it -stop the action then comes the automation; -'file' - 'automate' - 'batch' -select the action you just created -choose the original file folder ('source folder') -choose the 'destination folder' (where you saved resized image) -make sure 'override save commands' is selected. run it. that should work for you. let me know how it goes |

Thanks alot! It's working now, your instruction was very helpful. As you said I don't know why I was going to the help menu! Also I had to check the override box in both the source and destination folders.
Thanks once again, |
