round edge rectangle tool, need help...
Using PS7 and the round edge rectangle tool...is there an easy way to save the "selection" as a round edge image?
is there a way to place the rounded corner selection onto a transparent canvas ? please help... I have searched the tutorials and have run out of time... I do not have the time or skills to attempt this without the round edge tool can someone that is familiar with this tool give me some pointers? TIA |

does not work for me...
I make the selection and as soon as I let off the mouse button it becomes a "color overlay" and then I don't know what you mean by "right click on Layer" layer what ?, where?...I can duplicate the layer by (left) clicking on "Layer" in the main tool bar and selecting duplicte layer... then you say "delete original layer" the original "color overlay" or the background?... can't use the magic wand tool because it is a "fill layer"... please help... |

It is to do with the type of path you are creating with the rectangle tool. I'm not sure about PS7 but in CS, up in the options Palette there are three buttons at the left called 'Shape Layers', 'Paths' & 'Fill Pixels'. I would say you have it set to 'fill pixels' which gives you a coloured rectangle. You need to set it to 'Paths' to do what I am going to tell you now:
Select your rectangle tool checking that it is set to 'Paths' in the options palette. Draw your Rectangle. Go to the 'Paths' Palette and right click on the 'Work path' you just created. Click Make Selection and set the feather radius to 0. Now you could 'Inverse' the Selection by going to the 'Select' Menu and selecting 'Inverse'. Then hit delete to remove everything arund the selection. Another way (and quicker) is once you have set the path to a selection, click on the 'Add Layer Mask' icon in the bottom of the layers palette (Second from the left) which will hide or Mask everything around your selection. Hope this is what you meant |
