Save For Web causes photoshop 7 to crash

Hi there,

This really strange and irritating problem has cropped up with PS 7 - I've been using it for ages and this problem has come up out of the blue, for no apparant reason.

Every time I try to Save For Web, the whole ap closes with no error message or anything. The optimization screen comes up as normal (where you select gif, jpg etc), but when I hit Save, the whole prog just disappears!

I've searched the forums and tried the following, with no success;

Resetting the Preferences file
Setting the Scratch Disc to D: (mine is a partitioned single physical drive)
Clean reinstall PS
Duplicating files and closing the original before renaming and saving them.

I'm running XP Pro, have 768 of RAM and using pretty modern machine - so I don't think it's a memory problem. I haven't installed SP2 but would rather leave this if necessary, cos I'm scared it'll interfere with something else.

Any ideas, advice, expertise would be very very very much appreciated!

Thanks. Martin.

Does it do it for every file you try to save for web or is it just a specific file?

Try running your anti virus program.

Reinstall PS.

Hi and big thanks for your help.

It does it for every file, even ones that I've used without hitch for ages.

I've tried reinstalling PS and it made no difference. It was a clean reinstall (although there was one file that had to "be removed manually" and I didn't because of some warning message, I can't remember what now - I hope that bit makes sense to you).

I'll try updating and scanning with AVG and maybe Spybot / Ad-Aware too.

Thanks again!

Virus Wierdness

Hi again,

I updated my AVG.

Now, when I do a scan, it doesn't pick anything up. But every so often, the resident shield warns me of a couple of viruses:

"C;\DOCUME~1\martin\LOCALS~1\Temp\AAWTMP\C39945288\CFFEF\Counter.class"

"C;\DOCUME~1\martin\LOCALS~1\Temp\AAWTMP\C39945288\CFFEF\Parser.class"

It tells me to run AVG to get rid of it, but when I do (a complete test, or just the Temp folder) it comes up as clean. Also, when I looked for the file to delete it manually, I couldn't find it....

Is this connected?

Cheers, Martin

This just started happening to me as well. However, I do not even make it to the optimization screen. As soon as I click on "Save for Web" in the menu, the program crashes. Has anyone come up with a solution yet? I tried calling Adobe, they want to charge me $39 if it is not an issue with the program. Give me a break. I am sorry to say that I received much better, FREE customer service from Microsoft. God it kills me to say that.

How to reset Save For Web preferences?

Hi, I'm back because the same thing has happened to me again!!!!

Now, if it helps anybody, the last time I sorted it by specifically resetting the SFW preferences. Resetting the overall preferences DOESN'T seem to affect these.... the SFW prefs remain and have to be reset separately. (PS7).

Only trouble is.... I can't remember how to do it!

It's a "hold down shift+alt" type move, while selecting SFW. But I just can't remember the exact formula... can anyone help PLEASE! Doh!

Ok done it, and it has worked again!!

pressing alt can cause the file menu to disappear, so a bit of careful timing is required.... try it and you'll see what I mean.

So, for anyone else looking at this:

"The Save for Web preferences can be deleted by holding down CTRL+ALT whilst selecting 'Save For Web' in the File Menu.

If you wish to delete the Save for Web preferences manually, they are located at:

c:\Documents and Settings\~username\Application Data\Adobe\Save for Web\8.0\ "

Well I use spybot, so could well be! Interesting stuff... I'm glad I discovered the easier solution as opposed to getting into reg changes... scary stuff for moi. Thanks!
