Shadow like this??
Can someone explain how to do such a shadow effect.

Sure.
Make a rectangular selection with the marquee tool. Fill it with black. Select 'Filter' 'Blur' 'Gaussian Blur' - set it to whatever looks right. Adjust the opacity so the shadow looks how you want it. Hit 'Ctrl-T', and play around with that adjustment 'til it looks right (or go 'Edit' 'Transform' and select 'skew' or 'perspective'). Hope that helps.

That actually looks like a soft bevel effect by the way it's heavy on the left side and filters out as it moves across to the right.
On top of what ran posted, also try to use "Layer Styles" for that layer:
