Simple background color question

The background color has always been gray. Now it is black. The background color that I am talking about is the one outside the editable area on the screen. I am talking about the space that is not editable.

Can anyone help me change that color back to gray? I have looked in preferences, tried my paint bucket tool in that area, nothing works. Please help me.

you are taking abt. the bg when u increase the canvas size. Try deleting the preference files... but if u have styles unsaved might save this preference file to use later.

I read somewhere (another forum? this forum?) that you can select (as your foreground color) the color you want your "now black, used to be gray, non-editable area" to be and with the paint bucket selected, hold shift and click in the area to change it to said foreground color.... it made more sense the way the other person worded it, but... hopefully you get the idea!
