Re: Some simple photoshop questions?
Quote: Originally posted by trueman I have been doing as many tutorials as possible to try and learn photoshop. However there are a few questions I have about some things that I dont quite undertsand.
1. What exactly are we doing when we ctrl-click onto a layer?
ctrl+clicking on a layer will select that entire layer.
For example: If your layer is a red circle with a transparent background, ctrl+clicking it will select the red circle.
2. What are paths and channels. Some tutorials get you to switch to the channels tab. What exactly are channels.
Ill leave this for someone else, Im not a 'channel expert'. But paths you create with the pen tool
3. If I have an image open and I want to put a new image onto another layer what is the best way to do this?
You can just click on the image and drag it over onto the other image. That will automatically create a new layer for that image.
Or you can press Ctrl+A to select the entire image, then Ctrl+C to copy it. And then cilck on the layer where you want to paste it and click Ctrl+v.
I have tried Copy and paste but it doesnt always work and I sometimes get an error message about nothing to copy even though I have chosen "Select all". Is his the usual way to do this?
You are getting that 'nothing to copy' message probably because you are trying to copy on the wrong layer. Make sure the layer that you are trying to copy is the active one. (the one that is highlighted in your layers palette). Ive been working with Photoshop for a while now and I still make that mistake sometimes.
Thanks for your help.
