Text Outline In Photo 5 Or 6

I'm new to Photoshop and want to just put a black outline around my text. Seems simple enough but I can find it. Is it there? HELP!

there's no easy way to do it but you can fake the effect.

take your text and then CTRL click on the text layer. You should get a selection marquee flush round your text. create a new layer BEHIND your text and select it. Then on the Selection menu use the Expand option to increase the size of the marquee by whatever you want. Finally flood fill (paint bucket) your selection with the desired color. Deselect and bingo ...

PS6:
> Double-click your text layer in the layer palette.

> At the very bottom there is a section called "stroke".

> Click on it and adjust the settings for an outline around your text.

I was gonna suggest strokin' it too but it usually doesn't look so hot when you apply it to text; Doesn't look smooth. Anybody else have the same prob?

I have been trying to figure this out for a long time! Im still learning the many many features of photoshop and it never occured to me about expanding the selection! Ive been using the stupid paintbrush and meticulously taking forever to outline my text zoomed in at like 600%. I cant thank you enough!
I tried what you said figuring it wouldnt work for me and when it looked right I screamed lol. You just saved me loads of time!
thanks again
