Unlocking Layers
Newbie question. I'm working on a small simple gif file. However, the layet (only one) appears to be locked, and I can't make any changes. It's on my machine, and I've even tried to create a new layer to play with, but the entire layer menu is greyed out. Any help?

If you double click the layer, a box will come up for you to rename it and whatever. Just click OK and the layer will be unlocked.

it depends on what you are trying to do. Sometimes a background layer is locked and will not allow some actions to occur.
More than likely the problem is that since you are using a gif file the color pallet has been set to Index or 256 color. This will disable alot or features, filters, and tools. Change the color pallet to RGB or CMYK and see if that "unlocks" the layer. To change the color pallet/mode go to Image>>Mode and then select the color pallet you want. |

This was suggested in another thread; try duplicating the layer. If that works, you can then delete the original layer & you should be able to edit the new one.

is it photoshop 7?
if it is photoshop 6 then you have to right click on the layer and there is option unlock, then unlock it.
if it is photoshop 7 then double click on that layer is perfect. thanks www.infoway.us |
