Which web server? Generally you install PHP and the web server at the same time.

There are some pretty good pre-packaged solutions. WAMP, MAMP, LAMP, XAMPP. Those include all the tools you'll need (including PHP) to run PHP code and have a functional web server. If you're not hosting your own server, ask your host if what you're paying for supports PHP.
