I've written a very basic forums/message board system and I'm interested in implementing an equally basic tag system (similar to UBB code) so that users can display links and images in their posts. For example (pretend the brackets are squared):

    (img)http://www.image.com/image.jpg(/img)

Would display the image specified in the URL.

Does anyone have any advice on parsing this sort of thing? I've never done anything like this before and could use a hand. Thanks,

    JG.

There's a PHP message board that's a damn near ripoff of UBB called vBulletin (it's UBB with some mods built in, and runs on a MySQL database). It uses the _exact_ same UBB Code syntax, so if you get their demo version and *borrow* the code, you'll have no problem setting it up.

(PS: The URL is http://www.vbulletin.com I think.)
