I don't really understand your question. What exactly do you mean by framework?

searching for PHP framework gives me:
Mojavi, Cake, Seagull, PRADO, BLueShoes, PEAR. OO PHP application frameworks. I believe there's some thread where Mojavi is mentioned quite a bit as a good framework to use in combination with... Eclipse? Not entirely sure. Haven't used it myself. |

Ah, yes. There is no such thing as "the best framework". Just like there is no "best php editor". That all depends on how you like it. How others feel about a certain framework or editor, can in no way reflect how good it is, or what you think about it.
Personnaly, I never use frameworks. PEAR however, has lots of extra classes for mailing and dozens of other purposes. But it all depends on how you like it. |

I've been looking at a few frameworks and have settled on Prado.
http://www.xisc.com/ I'm gonna use it on my next project and see how it goes. Has built in support for AJAX via JPSpan. Won the grand prize in the Zend PHP 5 Coding Contest. Has some good documentation. Last edited by FragMaster B : May 27th, 2005 at 10:20 AM. |

...7 months later.
Prado is unbelievable. I've used it on a couple projects now and am really in love. It does some really amazing things. Do yourself a favor and check it out. www.xisc.com Last edited by FragMaster B : December 21st, 2005 at 11:43 AM. Reason: activating link |

This is an excellent question.
Im still somewhat new to PHP myself and would like to take it to the next level. I've noticed that most people that use frameworks come into it with the concept picked up from another language (java comes to mind). I've just discovered the power of frameworks but because I don't have the background I'm having a difficult time just delving straight into cake or prado. So I have a question for someone who has traveled this road before me. You started with PHP, and didn't have the OOP knowledge like other PHP guys that you pick up from other languages (MVC, Frameworks, Extensive OOP and Modularization). Right now I have a few clients that I have built custom CMS's for, and already I can see the need for a framework. They are happy with my services but when they call for more, I end up rewriting code, and it is no fun, it is actually quite tedious. At the same time I don't know enough to just jump into a framework, even though it is obvious that I need to do it. So the question is...
Where do I go(tutorials, books, whatever) that can teach me to write my own little framework before I jump into one of the others? I don't want to reinvent the wheel. I just want to write one small enough that will educate me in the ins and outs of them. That way if I'm developing with Prado or Cake I know what I'm doin. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. |
