I need to do the following, and i'm having problems. When a user goes to my https website, the php3 page will:

1) Detect what encryption level the browser supports (40bit or 128bit)
2) Let the user know what level of encryption he is using
3) Allow me to specify on a per-page basis if a browser with 40-bit encryption is allowed to view the page or not.

I have tried the following codes to detect the encryption level, but get undesirable results.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana,Arial,Helvetica">code:</font><HR><pre>
<?
if(getenv(SSL_CIPHER_USEKEYSIZE) !="40") {
echo "You are connected via 40-bit encryption";
} else {
echo "You are not connected via 40-bit encryption";
}
?>
With the code above, all it will display is "You are connected via 40-bit encryption" no matter what ssl level i choose in the SSL_CIPHER_USEKEYSIZE options.

I have also tried:

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana,Arial,Helvetica">code:</font><HR><pre>

<?php
if ( getenv("$SSL_CIPHER_ALGKEYSIZE") != "40" ) {
echo "You are using 40-bit encryption";
} else {
echo "You are not using 40-bit encryption";
}
?>
But regardless of which i use above, i only get a response for the first "echo" command.

Does anyone know how to do what i'm trying to do?

Thanks,

I would pipe the variables to the screen first to see what they actually contain. Maybe phpinfo(); does that for you...
