I am interested in writing an online forum and I was wondering if anyone has any experience they ould like to share with me. Also, If anyone knows where I could find any scripts that are already out there it ould be greatly appreciated. I want it to be pretty much like this forum. TIA

You're in luck. There's a PHP rip of this bulliten board system (UBB) called vBulletin, it runs on PHP and a MySQL database. You can grab it off of http://www.vbulletin.com (and, FYI, I don't work for them )

I may not be of much help here, as I just installed PHP4 yesterday and am just learning my way around, but I have found a bunch of sites that have script repositories.
http://px.sklar.com/section.html?section_id=5 has a bunch of BBS scripts, some requiring a database back-end (this link takes you right to the BBS scripts).
I played with this one that is listed halfway down on the page:
PHP Only Message Board by Ian Hickman
It worked ok, but had a few problems, such as replying to a reply and all. It would put the posts out of order.
