How can I call a second PHP file from the first PHP file??

This is what I want to do. I already have a php file(2) which submits data to the database.

I have another php file(1) which checks if this data already exixts before submitting the data.

    How can I call file(2) from file(1) ??

    thnx,

    Ranesh.
