Cool fields in database are empty

Hi those fields in the database are empty, thus nothing is showing, only the fields before the error contain information. (fname, lname, town). The fields are set Null=yes in the database so Im still confused. When I put single quotes around all the variables I still got the same error message. Its very confusing.

Are the other variables ever initialized? Post some code showing how you initialized them. If you don't ever initialize them, then you don't need to include them in the UPDATE statement.

    Hi,

This kind of problem is common when breaking new ground. There are a lot of things that can fall over even in a fairly simple process such as this, so it is worth building from the ground up.

Here are a few things I would try in this situation.

Ensure the db connection is open

Try hard coding the values in the update query, such as
fname='Joe',lname='bloggs'...etc so you know exactly what is being passed, especially in the WHERE clause, as the absence of a record to update is a possibility.

echo the query to the browser and check the syntax.

Once you can get hard coded values into the record, then go through the form processing part, using echo to check values.

    Hope this helps.
