    Sorry to step in. The responses seem to be sliding a bit away from the basic inquiries of a beginner. IngwiePhoenix did a fine job at defining the \r\n, even if he may have gone a bit deeper than needed. As per the 2 options, as long as one is working with up-to-date items, and not things of the past, \n will pretty much cover what you need for inserting a new-line type function.

    PHP Strings goes over things rather fairly, and even uses other items, even the PHP_EOL.

    and learned two things here

    1st : ord("a") is used to show ASCII code
    2nd : we can use terminator under the double quotes after echo like

    PHP Code:
    <?php echo ord("a") . "<br />"?>
     <?php echo ord("b"?>
    thanks dear

    I want to increase your knowledge. as SEO analyst I want to tell you
    always try to use standard language. there are three types of languages and Definitions.
    1) Children Level
    2) Bachelor Level
    3) University or Doctor Level

    in Standard : Bachelor level english and definition is used; that people can easily understand you and can communicate you.

    65% people don't understand high level english in the world. they use google translator.

    in SEO I always recommend,

    1) bachelor level english
    2) short sentences
    3) not too long paragraph
