Hi,

We are looking at hosting a simple business directory site using MYsql and
PHP. This would be a start to various information related content on a web
site related to India.

The database contains contact information on about 5000 companies. This will increase to abt 100,000 listings in say six months. We maintain the database as foxpro files, which we understand can be uploaded to the mysql database.

The fields of the business database which we want to start immdtly are;

Company Name:
Company Addresss
City
Pin code (ZIP)
Phones (1,2,3)... 3 telephone numbers
Fax
Email
Name of contact person
Contact persons designation
Business Categories (1,2,3).... 3 different business categories or headings.

It would be similar to the business search on say http://www.bigyellow.com
or any other yellow pages site

For Ex: Someone may query for businesses selling Zippers ( Business
Categories ) in NewYork (City) with and/or Pin/Zip code ( for a business
located nearby).

How do we get to use PHP to do this. Would you be able to help. Anybody have some simple code for this?

Would someone be able to suggest
some developers who could do this work for us.

Regards

Raj Mohan

Raj,

Check out the tutorials on PHP3/mySQL on this site - www.devshed.com/Server_Side/PHP/Introduction/ , WebMonkey - www.hotwired.com/webmonkey/databases/tutorials/tutorial4.html and PHPBuilder - www.phpbuilder.com/columns/jesus19990308-1.php3 .

None of them are perfect, but they'll give you a good start on working with php3/mySQL. If you think it's beyond you after that, there's plenty of developers who can do it for you.

Cheers,
adam

When we do this for out clients we normally get the database to create a delimited file and use a web page to pull the file from the hard drive and update MySQL.

To pull the file we use input type=file within a form and process the file with PHP3 to copy it to the relevant location for incorporation into the Database.

Its a quick system and very easy to use.
