How to implement Unix command
"uuencode -m $inFile nothing_out"

And in fact I even dont know what the sentence "uuencode -m $inFile nothing_out" means. can u tell me?

Sooruy, didn't understand the wuestion outright.
That command is used to encode binary data (such as pics) into pure ASCII data so that they can be transfered by mediumes that don't understand other types of data other than ASCII. Your command is used to encode a file with base64 encoding and to send the result on STDOUT (standard output).
To tell you the truth, I have no idea how to implement this on PHP other than system() function, but if you are interested because you want to send images or some attachments through the mail, use Richard Heyes' class which is pretty good.

have you used it in php4?

I haven't used it at all..
I didn't find any project to use it on. However, I think that no problems should occur. Give it a try, if there is a problem, let Richard know. Although I think he would already patch it if there were some problems...
