    Is This Possible?

What i want to do is use PHP to search an external webpage for a string

Example i own this website and i want to search facebook for the string "login"

So is it possible to search a site that the user inputs, and search it for a user inputted text, they will most likely be searching for images if that matters.

And i want it to search for the image every hour/user input to check if it's still there and if it isn't found, log that the string wasn't found in the page in a database (MySQL?)

I honestly have no clue about web coding so :P, i do have a fairly good understanding of the languages so i can understand what is happening.

The other idea i had if that isn't possible is to save a copy of the webpage on the server, search it for the string and then delete it

You can take a look at the Client URL (CURL) library.

Searching for Facebook login area sounds a bit suspicious!

Take a look at what and how you ask you questions.
The only question you ask about in the first post, is if something is possible, which is a yes or no question.

Manuals and tutorials are your next step. It's far too much to expect us to take you from "no clue about web coding" to providing the details about how to solve the problem. There are many choices.

Now that you know it is possible, your fun begins -- learning how to use PHP to figure it out. Depending on your experience, it could take you anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

FWIW, googling "php open web file" took me exactly to the manual page I would start with. But if that manual page doesn't make sense to you, then you need to back up and learn PHP basics.
