    the php manual gave an example where you can pull an entire file into one string:

    $fcontents = join( '', file( 'http://www.php.net' ) );

    is there a maximum size that this string can hold, therefore a maximum size file I could import...

    what happens when this max is reached...error, or just cuts off..??

    any help is appreciated..

    The maximum string length is limited by your web-server's memory space (physical+swap). Your sysadm may, however, have put a limit on the web-server's memory consumption.

    By the way, it's probably quicker to read a file into a string using the code example at http://dk.php.net/manual/function.fread.php3
