I'm trying to figure how to begin on this.

I have a mySQL db with a number assigned with user_id. There are multiple records for each user_id with different numbers. I can retrieve all the records or select by user_id and add the results.

How do I grab all the records, sort by user_id, add the numbers while user_id = user_id, and sort the results from highest to lowest?

Not following you here. Perhaps you could give us a sample record so we can see what you're trying to do?
