    OK,
I gather from reading this forum that it's not possible to hand the result index of a query around php webpages. So, I've been looking into using virtual/temporary tables to store results from a Search webpage facility (which interrogates a Postgres database).

I was wondering if I could use persistence (pg_pConnect) to make then keep a link to such a table.

What I need to know is
    1) is it possible?
    2) at what point do you release connection to the table and free it up?
    3) if anyone's done this can they give me any pointers to sample code or webpages that explain the how-tos in more detail?

You could store the results in a normal array and the use PHP 4's session management to accomplish persistance.
