PHP Architect: A monthly magazine dedicated to PHP Professionals

The first issue of PHP Architect is available at www.phparch.com

I wrote an article for it, Tips & Tricks, so that's why I'm plugging it. It is an incredible magazine, though, and has some great articles in it by some well known PHP Professionals (not me ).

I hope some of you check it out. If you do, let me know what you think of my article and give me some more ideas. Thanks!

looks like quite a nice publication, but I wouldn't subscribe having never seen it... What do I have to do to get the first edition for free? If it cut's the mustard I would certainly put the case forward for some sort of corporate subscription at $workplace

    CHR15T0,

You can actually just buy one issue--it's only about 2 bucks!

I just downloaded a copy of the magazine. I wanted to let everyone know about a small glitch I had in case anyone else does this.

When I purchased the magazine, it redirected me to a page confirming my purchase. I immediately got an email saying the same. However, I got no indication of where I needed to go or what I needed to do to actually download the magazine. I was expecting a hyperlink either in the email or on the page I was redirected to after the purchase. The hyperlink to email the Subscription Department off the page I was redirected to was a dead link.

Eventually I found that I just needed to go to My Account off the home page to download the issue. It took a little hunting and pecking but it wasn't intuitive (hey its their first issue - they'll get it all ironed out soon I'm sure).

My initial impression of the magazine is that its definitely worth a $1.99. Seventy-two pages without many ads, lots of syntax-highlighted code, the PHP and SQL code included as seperate files ready to use and of course an article by John. Not a bad deal.

I look forward to reading it.

Yeah, it would be nice if it was actually out in print, but you have to start somewhere, right.

There is a sample article on the web site, too, so you can get an idea of what you're buying.

    FYI: From the editor
    Hello John--

    As a follow-up:

    1) We've found and fixed the broken link.

    2) We added a short explanation of how to pick up issues to the
    subscription confirmation page

    3) We added full instructions to the confirmation e-mail.

    Thanks for your input!

    Cheers,

    Marco
    Hope that helps.

No. DevShed must have been accidently edited out. Some of the other writer's bios talked about moderating and online forums. John must feel his wife and kids are more special than us because that's all his bio mentioned.

I just printed off my first issue. I'm impressed with the side and the zend-like pick up point. Some other nice touches are that the customer really gets the feeling that the doc is registered to *him/her*. I had problems opening the pdf with xpdf on my *nix box, so I did have to resort to a colleague's 'dize machine to open the thing.. I think it's the password lock that was muddling stuff. There is some really good use of pdf in this mag - and the label on the front page, which says it's registered to me is a nice touch.

Now all I have to do is read the thing !

However, I do wonder how the php|a team are going to maintain their momentum. I mean with SNMP, nCurses, Webmail, PDFs and DBA in the first issue, what will ever be in the 12th ??
