Like any computer topic, I figure the best way to learn PHP and mySQL is by reading a book. Can you recommend any books or websites. Also, I'm not confining myself to using mySQL. I need a database that is going to be used for storing fairly static data that I need to be able to search through and sort quickly. I've thought of using LDAP. Any suggestions on a good database to use would be very helpful.

Thanks

I've really liked reading Paul DuBois' book _MySQL_ published by New Riders. I found it very helpful.

I also liked the DuBois' mySQL book. "Professional PHP Programming" is pretty good for a beginner, since it has many examples. Good luck
