I'm a newbie in need of some help. When I attempt to 'make' and 'make install' after configuring PHP4 I get the following results:

[root@localhost: php-4.0.0]# make
make: *** No targets. Stop.
[root@localhost: php-4.0.0]# make install
make: *** No rule to make target 'install'. Stop.

Is there something I need to do or something I forgot?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You need to run the configure script before running 'make'.
This might help: http://www.devshed.com/Talk/Forums/Forum15/HTML/000020.html

Ok. I think I'm missing something. As I said before...I'm getting this make error AFTER I run the configure script. Like this:

# ./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql
--with-xml
--with-apache=../apache_1.3.12
--enable-track-vars

then make followed by make install.

Try to put the --with-whatever all in one line without slash delimiter

# ./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql --with-xml --with-apache=../apache_1.3.12 --enable-track-vars

Or you can go to the link I provided earlier.
