My site badly needs to be automated, wanted to get prices on someone setting up PHP and MySQL to do the basics for me, and to show me how to make the neccesary changes for other pages.

It is basically a sports site, where I would need to pull linked headlines, and schedules from a database...would also like to do rosters and school info the same way down the road.

Any takers? Respond to this, or email me at couleesports@charter.net

I appreciate all of the responses, but we may have found a way around using PHP that can be up and running this week at no cost.

If it doesn't work, I'll let you know

But, basically, the schedule database would have these fields:

    Sport | Date | Event | Time | Headline | Link | Exempt

We would need a main headline page, pulling all of the headlines from the past three days, most recent first like this:

Sport Date Headline (headline serves as a link to the story, using the Link field)

The school headline page would be the same, but pulling headlines from the past week, and pulling only those where the Event was like "name of school"

and the sport schedule would be pulling all of the events where Sport="sport name" AND Event is like "name of school" AND Exempt is not "Y"

    The output would look like:

    Date Event Time

On the main page, we would also pull a schedule, pulling the events for the next two days, showing as follows:

    Date Sport Event Time

If there is someone who can do this, at a reasonable price, give me an estimate. an interface where I can update the database online, or coaches can input the scores automatically. Of course, this would have to be password protected....

If this works, we can then take a look at the roster and school info databases, but for now, we will do those by old fashioned HTML

Oh, Sorry, neglected to mention this...the server is a UNIX Apache, and is set up for PHP and MySQL, although I am not sure if it has to be loaded for my site specifically...

Also, I have all of the data in Microsoft Excel, and would need to have that automatically entered into the database somehow...

Yes, this is what I do quite a bit of at the ISP I work at, Jump.net. You may want to look into MySQLAdmin at phpwizard.net. I'd be willing to do some work for you for a minimal, minimal price. More or less I'd provide some consulting and on-hands coding and database setup. I wouldn't charge more than $25/hour for a couple hours and then maybe the rest for litte or no money, just so as I get some credit if you publish the site, such as put a link to a design business an associate of mine and I are starting.

So, for $50 bucks or so, I'd setup Apache, MySQL, PHP4, ssh, ftp, and anything else should be easy or not needed for a server. Then I'd do some hands on coding for nothing just to do it.

As for the Excel spreadsheet, it's easy enough to import. You may wish to look at MySQLAdmin at phpwizard.net. It takes the hand setup of tables out of the way. This saves time but only after you understand what is going on with MySQL.

If you are interested let me know:

check out http://back-end.org that'll get you started for nothing, you'll obviously need to modify the code to make it bespoke tho

    Lets try this again.....

I sent a response to Mr. Bryant, but got no reply from him.

If anyone is interested in helping with this project, send me an email to couleesports@charter.net, and I will send the specifics of what I need.

I am already 1 week plus into the high school sports season, and Plan B and Plan C have already failed...its back to Plan A (one of you guys) or switching over to a fully automated FrontPage server and shelling out a lot of bucks both to my current host and to a new one as well
