    Hi

My company has a very large database of 100,000+ members with first and last names. I need to send an email to these users each day customized with their names in the subject header.

Is there any way this can be done via PHP? Would script timeout errors get me? ($30,000 Lyris software is out of the question at this point).

Or, if you suggest running this in the background instead as a web page script, how do you do it?

    Anyone have ideas?

If you have php installed as CGI, you could write a php script to get data from a db, then have it sent to all the addresses. For experimental purposes, I did this for a small group of 200 addresses (good friends!), and it takes a little bit of time to complete with php. I'd never do this through the web though.

If you're going to keep sending mail to members like this, you can benefit from a mail list manager such as MailMan.

I always use PHP/MySQL for the front end i.e. users adding their names/addresses etc..

But always Perl for sending the e-mails

Why perl? Is it because of the longer timeouts? Couldn't I just set the timeout=999999 in php.ini?

If perl is vital - can you give me any scripts or code I could study (I am fairly decent in PHP but have no experience in perl).

    thank you, tennisguy
