is there a command that can redirect the user to another page..... hence in using cookies:
1> page to get login information, submit form, action is verify.php3
2> verify.php3 verifies their information, sets the cookie, and **REDIRECTS the user automatically to the index.php3 page**.
3> index.php3 loads, able to get the cookie value.
I don't want the user to really see verify.php3, more or less look seamless from the first page to index.php3.
Any help appreciated,

If u want to redirect from one php page to another php page u can use Header function
which will take the url as the paramater.
But this function must be called before any out put is sent to the browser.

you may problems doing things before you set the cookie as this can freak it out (even white space), probably best to verify, collect the variable(s) for your cookie, use meta refresh set at zero and then set the cookie using those values once you get to index.
echo "<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=index.php3?Val=$Val&Val2=$Val2">";
or something along those lines....

Your file verify.php3 can do the verification before setting the header as long as it does not send any information to the browser.
Then depending on the verification result the header information can be set.In this header you send the login info. In index.php3 you can then set a cookie, if necessary, and use the variables set by the header to continue.
