A way to separate a process

I have a page that upon submit runs a sql query AND sends an email through the PEAR mail function...

Problem is the email sometimes will lag hard either on our end or on the smtp relay end.

Is there a way I can pass this email processing to a separate page or function where the result or lag would have no affect on the primary page?

That way it could lag all it wants without affecting the user experience on that first page.

A result does not need to be passed back to the original page at all.

Write the mail script in what ever language you prefer. Use 'exec' with '&' on Linux or '/b' on Windows. Of course if the job fails for some reason your PHP page will not know it.
There are 10 kinds of people in the world. Those that understand binary and those that don't.
