Session-Management with PHP3

Can anybody tell me how the session-management works in php3. i have tested the session-management in php4 but i will also use it in php3! Can I do so??

the session functions are new to PHP4 .. you can use phplib to make something similar to sessions in PHP3, but the same php4 functions will not work
