    Special Characters... bad idea ?

I have product names in my database like so:
    SomeProduct™
    OtherProduct®

I'm using the product name in my URL's, and then querying on the on the destination page.

I tried using htmlspecialchars() on my product names, but when the product name gets queried on the next page... it doesn't pull the data from the DB.

Am I going about this all wrong ?
The purpose of encoding the product names were to get rid of any spaces and special characters that may make my URL's not "search engine friendly".

    Any suggestions are welcome !!!
