Suggestions on a 3rd party file manager

Hi,

I wish to allow my partners to upload/download/delete php/js/css/etc files in a given directory as well as make sub-directories within this directory. This directory will not be in my public htdocs directory, however if it has to be, I suppose I can make symbolic links from the htdocs directory to the below the root directory but I would rather not.

My first thought was to create some sort of ftp account, however, since I do not manage the server, this might be problematic. Would you agree?

My next thought was to create my own PHP based file manger to do so.

Then, I said "why don't I Google 'php file manager' and see what comes up. Wow, a bunch of them, and many seem good.

That being said, does anyone have any recommendations on which one to try out?

Thanks
