I have a internal webpage that is a collection of links (in a database)and I need a way to go through the database and test all of the URL's to see if they work and if they don't then notify an admin. How can I go about doing this...checking the links.

Perl works better in your situation. Try http://www.perl.com/CPAN-local/modules/by-module/HTTP/ and download libwww-perl-5.48.tar.gz

    tar -zxvf libwww-perl-5.48.tar.gz
    cd libwww-perl-5.48/lib/HTTP

then take a look at the perl modules in HTTP directory. Be sure to check out Status.pm.
