    I'm trying to retrieve records from a MySQL Database that I created.
    Here's the entity list :

    Book_details
    (#ISBN, Title, Subject, Author)

    BStore_details
    (#Store_Code, Store_Name, Store_Address, Store_Tel_Num)

    Book_Store_details
    (#ISBN, #Store_Code, Price)

    I'm trying to retrieve the following fields :
    #ISBN, Title, Subject, Store_Name and Price.

    The user should be able to enter an ISBN, Title, Subject (or keyword), Author or Book_Store and get a list with the 5 fields displayed above.

    I'm new to PHP4 and am not quite sure how to do this, but I'm trying my best and I hope I can learn as much as I can because I think PHP is a great language.

    Here is my source code for the 2 files :

    1st file : Display_Book.phtml

    I am unable to pass the variables $choice and $SS to the second file for processing, which results in the query not being performed.
    None of the queries get called at all. For instance, if the user chooses 1, the book database should search for ISBN and so forth.

    I would really appreciate any help. Thanks.

    Your method of opening the new page with JS means that the form doesn't actually get submitted!! A better thing would be to have a "search" link that launched the new window, then load the first form which did a normal form submit (without the JS) and i think that should work...

    while i am at it, change the option for isbn, author, title etc. into a select list to minimise out of range imput...

    Eowyn,
    you have to chnage the above line to
    if(isset($action)){ in your Book_Results.phtml .becoz our submit button name is "action" thier..so that line should be:

    <?
    if(isset($action)){
    //if user clicks on view list button..

    rest of the things are ok. i think it should work now..

    Eowyn,
    do you have some records in your database?.

    Probably that sql statement is not working properly.also try a simple select statement..
    "SELECT * FROM Book_details" and see how it works..

    Are you getting some error?Atleast it should show "No result message".

    in your second page, after the query this line:

    if (mysql_num_rows>0)

    i think should be:

    if (mysql_num_rows($result)>0)

    BTW: your not a perl programmer are you ?
