Could someone please help with writing to and retrieving information from a file.
I can normally do this for simple things (ie placing and viewing orders).

But when it comes to writing appointments to a file I am stuck.

I have a form which has days, time, name. When submitted it will write to a file.

    Problems I am having are:

    - How to check before writing to a file whether that specific day and time is empty
    - and how to view appointments in an order: Day first than Time and person

    Thank you

Personally, for things like this, I would really recommend writing and reading from a database table.

This will simplify the process of checking
to see if a date/time is available or taken.

If so, the script could return that to you, and tell you, it is already booked.

Otherwise, you'll have to devise a method which reads "each" file.. the database method would be much faster, and probably cut down on the time it would take to write it..

I know this doesn't answer the question, but in a way it does.
