Does anyone know of major news or weather sites which have open backends (eg: pull articles last 10 articles off on a defined subject) or open backend for weather information.

Essentially I'm looking for something that could be queried with perl, php, python or some other scripting language and used to produce web-ready output.

The only major news site that has the capability that I know of is slashdot.org (and affliate sites based on the same engine) and they don't really have the breadth of news that I need.

    Thanks folks.

sounds like you could use moreover.com - very cool. only problem is all you get are the headline links - they all lead to the actual websites.

on the other hand they can't be faulted for breadth of content - about 150 categories.

they offer various ways for you to insert them in your page: javascript, flash, xml etc...

if each page request downloads the headlines, things can get a bit slow, so i'd set a cron job to grab them and then include the results...
